전북대학교 국제학부 박지연 교수가 올해 처음 개설된 일반대학원 국제개발학과 대학원 외국인 재학생들의 안정적인 학업과 연구 지원을 위해 1천만 원의 발전기금을 기부했다.

 

이번 기부금은 국제개발학과 대학원 외국인 재학생 생활비 장학금으로 사용돼 학생들이 보다 안정적인 환경에서 학업과 연구에 집중할 수 있도록 활용될 예정이다.

 

2018년부터 전북대 국제학부에서 학생들과 함께 교육과 연구 활동을 이어오고 있는 박 교수는 국제개발과 평화, 글로벌 협력 분야에 관심을 가지고 다양한 배경의 학생들과 소통하며 교육과 인재 양성에 힘써오고 있다.

 

박 교수는 국제학부에서 올해 처음 일반대학원 국제개발학과 석사과정을 개설하며 다양한 국가와 배경을 가진 학생들이 함께 ‘개발’을 고민하고 ‘평화’를 이야기하는 새로운 배움의 장이 마련됐다는 점을 뜻깊게 생각했다고 밝혔다.

 

특히 이번 학기에 새롭게 입학한 학생들이 낯선 환경 속에서도 진지한 태도로 수업에 참여하고 자신의 경험과 문제의식을 나누는 모습을 보며 학생들이 경제적인 부담 때문에 학업의 기회를 포기하거나 어려움을 겪지 않았으면 좋겠다는 마음이 커졌다고 설명했다.

 

또한 외국인 학생들이 생활과 학업에 대한 걱정을 덜고 공부와 연구에 집중할 수 있도록 돕고 싶었으며, 앞으로 국제개발학과 대학원에 지원할 학생들에게도 장학금 수혜의 기회가 있다는 점이 알려져 더 많은 글로벌 인재들이 전북대학교를 선택하는 계기가 되기를 기대한다고 전했다.

 

박 교수는 “외국인 재학생들은 언어와 생활환경의 차이뿐 아니라 경제적인 어려움까지 함께 겪는 경우가 많다”며 “이번 장학금이 학생들이 보다 안정적인 환경에서 학업과 연구에 집중할 수 있도록 실질적인 도움이 되기를 바란다”고 말했다.

 

이어“우리 대학 국제개발학과 대학원 석사과정은 이제 첫걸음을 내디뎠다”며 “앞으로 세계 곳곳의 다양한 인재들이 모여 서로의 경험과 생각을 나누고 더 나은 미래를 함께 고민하는 배움의 공간으로 성장해가기를 바란다”고 덧붙였다.

 

양오봉 총장은 “국제개발학과의 새로운 출발을 응원하고 학생들을 위한 따뜻한 나눔을 실천해주신 박지연 교수님께 깊이 감사드린다”며 “기부금은 국제개발학과 대학원 외국인 재학생들이 안정적인 환경에서 학업과 연구에 전념할 수 있도록 소중히 사용하겠다”고 말했다.

 Professor Park Ji-youn of the Division of International Studies at Jeonbuk National University has donated ₩10 million to support the academic and research activities of international graduate students enrolled in the Department of International Development, a program newly established this year in the university’s Graduate School.

The donation will be used to provide living-expense scholarships for international students in the Department of International Development, helping them focus on their studies and research in a more stable environment.

Since joining the School of International Studies in 2018, Professor Park has been actively engaged in teaching and research while fostering communication with students from diverse backgrounds. Her academic interests include international development, peace, and global cooperation, and she has been dedicated to education and talent development in these fields.

Professor Park noted that the launch of the master’s program in International Development this year is particularly meaningful, as it provides a new learning environment where students from various countries and backgrounds can come together to explore issues of development and discuss pathways to peace.

She explained that, after observing the newly admitted students’ sincere participation in classes and their willingness to share personal experiences and perspectives despite being in an unfamiliar environment, she became increasingly determined to help ensure that financial difficulties would not prevent them from pursuing their academic goals.

Professor Park also expressed her hope that the scholarship would ease students’ concerns about living expenses and academic life, allowing them to concentrate on their studies and research. She further hopes that awareness of scholarship opportunities within the program will encourage more talented students from around the world to choose Jeonbuk National University for their graduate studies.

“International students often face not only language barriers and challenges adapting to a new environment, but also financial difficulties,” Professor Park said. “I hope this scholarship will provide meaningful support and help students focus on their studies and research in a more stable setting.”

She added, “The master’s program in International Development at our university has just taken its first steps. I hope it will grow into a vibrant learning community where talented individuals from around the world gather to share their experiences and ideas while working together to envision a better future.”

Yang Oh-bong, President of Jeonbuk National University, expressed his gratitude, saying, “I sincerely thank Professor Park Ji-youn for supporting the launch of the Department of International Development and for her generous contribution to our students. The donation will be used carefully to help international graduate students pursue their studies and research in a stable and supportive environment.”
